The identification of the optical/IR counterpart of the 29.5-s transient X-ray pulsar

چکیده
We report on the identification of the optical/IR counterpart of the 29.5-s transient X–ray pulsar GS 1843+009. We re–analysed an archival ROSAT HRI observation of GS 1843+009 obtaining a new refined position. The optical and IR follow–up observations carried out for the new error circle allowed us to find a relatively faint (V = 20.9) and variable early type reddened star (V − R = 2.1). The optical spectra show the Balmer and Paschen series in emission, while the IR observations confirm the presence of a flux excess (H = 13.2, J−H = 0.54), suggesting that the star is surrounded by a circumstellar envelope. Spectroscopic and photometric data together indicate a B0–B2 IV–Ve spectral–type star located at a distance of ≥ 10 kpc confirming the Be– star/X–ray binary nature of GS 1843+009.

The discovery of the optical / IR counterpart of the 12 s transient X – ray pulsar GS 0834 – 43 ⋆
We report the discovery of the optical counterpart of the 12.3 s transient X–ray pulsar GS 0834–43. We re–analysed archival ROSAT PSPC observations of GS 0834–43 obtaining two new refined positions, ∼14 and ∼18 away from the previously published one, and a new spin period measurement. Based on these results we carried out optical and infra–red (IR) follow–up observations. Within the new error c...
متن کاملObservations of the unusual counterpart to the X - ray pulsar AX J
We report optical and IR observations of the ASCA X-ray pulsar system AX J0051-733. The relationship between the X-ray source and possible optical counterparts is discussed. Long term optical data from over 7 years are presented which reveal both a 1.4d modulation and an unusually rapid change in this possible binary period. Various models are discussed.
متن کاملThe Detection of Variability from the Candidate Ir Counterpart to the Anomalous X–ray Pulsar
We report on the detection of variability from the proposed IR counterpart to the Anomalous X–ray Pulsar (AXP) 1E 1048.1−5937 based on Chandra and ESO optical/IR deep observations carried out in 2001–2002. Within the narrow Chandra uncertainty region for 1E 1048.1−5937 we found only one relatively faint (J=22.1±0.3, J– Ks=2.4) source, while the recently proposed IR counterpart was not detected ...
متن کاملDiscovery of the X - Ray Counterpart to the Rotating Radio Transient
We present the discovery of the first X-ray counterpart to a Rotating RAdio Transient (RRAT) source. RRAT J1819–1458 is a relatively highly magnetized (B ∼ 5 × 1013 G) member of a new class of unusual pulsar-like objects discovered by their bursting activity at radio wavelengths. The position of RRAT J1819– 1458 was serendipitously observed by the Chandra ACIS-I camera in 2005 May. At that posi...

We report the discovery of the likely IR counterpart to the Anomalous X–ray Pulsar (AXP) 1RXS J170849−400910, based on the combination of Chandra HRC–I X–ray position, and deep optical/IR observations carried out from ESO telescopes and the Canada France Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) during 1999–2002. Within the narrow uncertainty region we found two relatively faint (K=20.0 and K=17.53) IR objects. ...
